There are several governing bodies on the internet with respect to free digital information. The purpose of these bodies is to provide rights to content creators, while allowing for the exchange of information in the digital world. Some of the resources we list are 100% free without obligation, while others are rights managed by a governing body. Please pay close attention to the notices provided at the resources we link to. Some of the governing bodies that you are likely to come across are as follows.

• GNU General Public License (GPL) - This license embodies the Free Software Foundation's "copyleft" rule, which means that anyone is allowed to make changes or extend the source code and redistribute it as long as the changes are clearly marked, and the modified work is also licensed under the GNU General Public License.
• Creative Commons - Creative Commons provides free tools that let authors, scientists, artists, and educators easily mark their creative work with the freedoms they want it to carry. You can use CC to change your copyright terms from "All Rights Reserved" to "Some Rights Reserved."
